SITE SURVEYING ( BLD60103)
INTRODUCTION
Site Surveying is the study of land measurement in elevations, angle, distances and directions on the earth surfaces for establish a layout or boundaries of a construction site. This module teaches us the fundamentals of site surveying and allows students to experience the actual practices of site surveying. One of the objectives of Site Surveying is to provide the base knowledge and overview image in site surveying module. Besides that, it provides the procedures in using surveying equipment. It enables the students to apply theory and practices for other uses in the construction industry. This module was taught by Mr Chai Voon Chiet and has a mid term test along with 2 fieldwork reports.
The objectives of this module are :
1. To provide an overview of surveying and to develop understanding of leveling theory and practice.
2. To develop the ability to use surveying instruments.
3. To develop the ability to translate survey information for use by design and construction teams.

REPORT ASSIGNMENT
These projects require a group of 3-4 people to do two different types of surveying on the campus carpark using the given instruments needed to do so. After doing the fieldwork, the group is required to put the data into a report. Basically the report is about Leveling and Traversing. It also helps us organise a group & enhance our teamwork as this fielwork along with the report requires us to fully utilise the given number of members.
My group member consists of:
1.) Kenneth Tan ( me)
2.) Goh Jia Jun
3.) Leong Li Jing
4.) Yip XiaoJung

Report 1 : Leveling
The first report is on the Leveling topic. We were given an Auto-level, a bar coded level rod & a tripod, along with a map of the campus carpark which showed points (turning points) of where we should measure the leveling, measuring the Backsight and Foresight. These fieldwork also helps us to find the elevation of the given point with respect to some assumed reference lines, datum, to establish point at required elevation respect to datum, to determine the difference in height of two discrete points,to analyze the probable errors that occurs while carrying out the survey and also to be aware of the types of errors that are present in the readings.

Report 2 : Traversing
The second report is based on the Traversing Topic. We were given the Theodolite, ranging rod, a tripod & tape measure in order to measure the length and angles of 4 points at anywhere in the same carpark. However, the objective of traversing is to allow us to determine the actual position of the boundary, to authorize the position of the boundary line, to determine the area encircle within a boundary and to establish ground control for photographic mapping. For me, I personally think that traversing are much more harder as compare with leveling. However, our group leader will also distribute the task evenly to all of us in order to complete the report on time.
